About Converters and Utilities

Some tasks are simple but constantly needed: converting a file size from megabytes to gigabytes, checking how an image's aspect ratio will change when you resize it, or quickly converting between units for a project. These converter and utility tools give instant answers without opening a dedicated application or searching through conversion tables. Each tool is focused on a single, well-defined task and returns a complete set of equivalent values so you can see all the conversions at once rather than running the calculation repeatedly for different units.

Who uses these tools?

  • Developers and system administrators checking file sizes in the appropriate unit for a given context
  • Video editors and designers verifying aspect ratios before resizing media for different platforms
  • Content creators checking how a file size or resolution will appear in different formats
  • Anyone who needs a quick, trustworthy unit conversion without ads or popups

Frequently asked questions

How many megabytes are in a gigabyte?
In the decimal system (used by storage manufacturers and most everyday contexts), 1 gigabyte = 1,000 megabytes. In the binary system (used by operating systems to report actual storage), 1 gibibyte = 1,024 mebibytes. This is why a 1 TB drive shows as roughly 931 GB in your operating system - the manufacturer uses decimal, the OS uses binary.
What is aspect ratio?
Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between the width and height of an image, video, or screen. Common ratios include 16:9 (widescreen video and monitors), 4:3 (older TVs and cameras), 1:1 (square, used on Instagram), and 9:16 (vertical video for mobile). The Aspect Ratio Calculator lets you find the missing dimension when you know the ratio and one side.
