WiFi QR Code Generator

Enter your WiFi network name and password to create a QR code guests can scan to connect automatically. No password typing needed. Free, runs in your browser, nothing stored.

Enter your network name to generate the QR code.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Enter your WiFi network name (SSID) exactly as it appears on your router or in your device's WiFi settings.
  2. 2Choose the security type. Most modern routers use WPA or WPA2/WPA3 - check the label on your router if unsure.
  3. 3Enter your WiFi password. Use the Show/Hide toggle to verify you have typed it correctly.
  4. 4If your network does not broadcast its name (hidden SSID), turn on the Hidden network toggle.
  5. 5Download the QR code as a PNG. Print it and place it where guests can scan it - at a reception desk, on a table card, or on the back of a door.

Example

Cafe guest WiFi QR code

Network name: CafeGuest. Security: WPA. Password: coffeetime2024. Generate the QR code, download as PNG, and print on a small table card. Guests scan and connect in one tap - no staff interaction needed.

Airbnb property WiFi card

Network name: FlatWiFi_2G. Security: WPA2. Password: SunsetView88. Print the QR code on a welcome card alongside the property address. Guests scan on arrival rather than hunting for a router label.

Common use cases

  • Printing a WiFi QR code for a cafe, restaurant, or waiting area so customers can connect without asking
  • Creating a guest network QR code for Airbnb or holiday rental properties
  • Adding a WiFi QR code to a meeting room or office reception so visitors connect quickly
  • Sharing the home WiFi with frequent guests without saying the password out loud
  • Making a printable WiFi card for elderly relatives who find it hard to type passwords

Common mistakes

  • Entering the network name with incorrect capitalisation - WiFi SSIDs are case-sensitive. 'MyNetwork' and 'mynetwork' are different networks.
  • Choosing the wrong security type - if the type does not match the router, the phone will fail to connect even though the password is correct. Check the router label.
  • Not testing the QR code on both Android and iOS before printing - scan it on both before committing to print.
  • Forgetting to update the QR code if you change the WiFi password - old printed codes will stop working immediately.

Frequently asked questions

Is my WiFi password stored anywhere?

No. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser. Your WiFi password is never sent to any server. Everything stays on your device.

Which security type should I choose?

Most modern routers use WPA or WPA2/WPA3. Check the label on the back of your router. If your router shows WPA2, choose WPA (the option covers WPA2/WPA3). If your router is very old, it may use WEP.

What does the Hidden network option do?

Some routers are configured not to broadcast their network name. If your SSID is hidden, turn this option on so the device knows to look for the network by name rather than detecting it automatically.

Why won't my phone connect after scanning?

The most common causes are: wrong security type selected, a typo in the SSID or password (case-sensitive), or the device's OS does not support this QR format. Test on Android first - iOS support for WiFi QR codes was added in iOS 11.

Does this work on iPhones?

Yes, on iOS 11 and later. Point the camera at the QR code and tap the notification that appears. The device will connect automatically. On older iOS versions, it will not work.

How do I find my WiFi password?

Check the label on the back or bottom of your router. If you have changed the password, check your router's admin panel (usually at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1). On a Mac, you can find saved passwords in Keychain Access.

What size should I print the WiFi QR code?

At least 4 cm x 4 cm for a table card scanned at 30-50 cm. Larger is better - WiFi QR codes are typically scanned at a closer distance than URL codes on posters.
